Our ranch
consists of their house on 5 acres with 20
acres next door and 13 acres the road. We also have
50 acres in Canton. In horses we have 1 stallion, and
the number of our mares is always changing. We are
truly blessed to have the opportunity to breed and own such
magnificent creatures.
We recently acquired Beau, a male Maltese which
will be standing at stud in 2009. We also breed
Labrador Retrievers for hunting dogs. You can see Rebel
(the stud) and Ellie (the momma) on our sales page. We
also have Bullet - a bird dog mix, Molly -
our 8 pound black Pomeranian who rules the
place, Trixie - a terrier mix and Katy Did It -
a lab mix (Trixie brought her home as a starving puppy
right at Christmas time - how could we not take her
in?). As for cats, we have Bogey, Taffy, Poncho,
Savvy, Shooter and Bongo who is our 17 pound stray
tomcat. Of course, living in the country, we always
have strays hanging around begging for food.
Although work is never done with the horses, when I get
a chance, I love movies, music, reading, drawing, painting
and crafts. Also at the top of my list is 'together
time' going fishing with Mike during the spring and summer. He
is an avid bowhunter and although I cannot kill anything,
I do love going to the deer lease with him for some much
needed R & R. We both have very large extended
families that are a very important and active presence
in their lives. We have Mike's two younger sisters
with us a lot as well as our God daughter, Randi. We
both love camping so we have a travel camper, a boat,
and a 4 wheeler as toys.
Mike started his own cable TV contracting business with
his partner, Victor about 6 years ago. His success
with his business has allowed me the opportunity to stay
at home and do the horse thing. He has lived in Texas
all of his life. He was born in Terrell but lived
in Dallas until we moved to Kaufman 5 years ago. I
was born in Greenville, Mississippi and moved to Dallas
when I was 11. I have since lived in Oregon and California,
but always returned to Texas.

Just
a Horse!
From time to time, people
tell me, "lighten up, it's just a horse," or, "that's a lot of money for
just a horse".
They don't understand the distance traveled,
the time spent, or the cost involved for "just a horse."
Some of my proudest moments have come about
with "just a horse." |
|
Many hours have
passed and my only company was "just
a horse," but I did not once feel slighted.
Some of my saddest
moments have been brought about by "just a horse," and in those
days of darkness, the gentle touch of "just a horse" gave me
comfort and reason to overcome the day.
If you, too,
think it's "just a horse,"
then you will probably understand phrases like "just a friend," "just a
sunrise," or "just a promise."
"Just a horse" brings
into my life the very essence of friendship, trust and
pure unbridled joy.
"Just a horse" brings
out the compassion and patience that make me a better person.
Because of "just a
horse" I will rise
early, take long walks and look longingly to the future.
So for me and
folks like me, it's not "just
a horse" but an embodiment of all the hopes and dreams of
the future, the fond memories of the pa stand the pure joy of the
moment."
"Just
a horse" brings
out what's good in me and diverts my thoughts away from myself and the
worries of the day.
I hope that
someday they can understand that it's not "just a horse" but the thing
that gives me humanity and keeps me from being "just a woman."
So
the next time you hear the phrase "just a horse", just smile,
because they "just" don't understand.
